Stephen Curry Excited For Family-Focused Facebook Watch Series

Curry's series debuts on May 2 and captures behind-the-scenes footage of his family life at homeNBAE/GETTY IMAGES

Warriors G Stephen Curry has "admitted feeling 'very skeptical'" on agreeing to his upcoming docuseries on Facebook Watch, as he only gave the green light "once he realized this could be another platform to highlight his storied NBA career, while also promoting his Christian faith and family," according to Mark Medina of the San Jose MERCURY NEWS. Curry on Monday in Oakland hosted a screening of the upcoming "Stephen vs. The Game." The six-episode series debuts on May 2 and "captures behind-the-scenes footage both of Curry’s championship run with the Warriors and his family life at home." The series "does not center on drama." Filming began during the '18 Western Conference Finals and "continued during varying pivot points through this season." The first episode "featured a mix of family home videos during Curry’s childhood." It has "interviews with Curry, his wife (Ayesha), his mother (Sonya) and his father (Dell)." It shows "behind-the-scenes footage." After its debut, the series will then "release episodes on May 9, May 16, May 23 and May 30." As for the "sixth and final episode, the content all depends" on if the Warriors win the NBA Finals (MERCURYNEWS.com, 4/2).

MAKING A SPLASH: AWFUL ANNOUNCING's Andrew Bucholtz noted there is “no shortage of shows focusing on athletes” available, but Curry’s new series “stands out a bit amongst that crowd.” Many athlete-involved series “seem to have the athlete offering relatively minimal participation.” However, Curry “seems pretty excited to be on camera, and pretty open with what he says.” In the first episode, it is the “look back at Curry’s upbringing and the interviews with his parents that made this feel particularly different from a more traditional look behind the scenes of an athlete’s life.” The archival footage is “notable and used well, and it helps provide more insight into who Curry is and where he’s come from” (AWFULANNOUNCING.com, 4/2).
