Renault Sport Racing and DuPont have teamed up to develop new technology for Renault’s Formula 1 racing team and other racing programs. The two brands will collaborate on materials solutions for hybrid and electric powertrain systems as part of a multi-year strategic technical partnership.

Dupont is one of the biggest chemical companies in the world, and will develop new materials that can impact the design of a car’s power system, fabrication, and communications. One specific area of collaboration involves creating battery adhesives that improve thermal management, according to a press release.

“Our multi-year technical development partnership will enable ongoing collaboration to advance hybrid technology and chassis solutions, which we believe will ultimately result in improved efficiencies and on-track competitiveness,” said Cyril Abiteboul, Managing Director of Renault Sport Racing, in the press release.

Renault Sport Racing and DuPont will also work to develop technology for consumer and road car applications. DuPont’s Kevlar fiber is already used in the tires and bodywork of Formula 1 Cars, while DuPont’s flame-resistant Nomex paper is used inside the car’s energy recovery system to provide electrical insulation and help protect drivers in case of a fire.

“If the DuPont and Renault F1 Team co-developed technologies can make a performance difference under the speed, stress and heat of an F1 car racing around a track at 370 kph, or 230 mph, then we are confident we can accelerate those solutions to benefit road car applications,” added Marc Doyle, COO of the DowDuPont Specialty Products Division.
