Final Opening Day At Globe Life Park Marred By Long Lines, Crowds

Rangers fans are no longer able to enter Globe Life Park with any print-at-home ticketsGETTY IMAGES

Hundreds of fans attending Thursday's Cubs-Rangers game at Globe Life Park waited in long lines outside the ballpark and "missed opening day ceremonies, the First Pitch and an inning or two," according to David Tarrant of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Security guards and police "blamed people all leaving their tailgate parties at the same time and creating a bottleneck." A Rangers spokesperson said that there were "no changes to security, but as of this year gate agents were no longer accepting print-at-home tickets, though you could show the ticket barcode on your mobile device at the gate" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 3/29). In Ft. Worth, Mac Engel notes the situation left a "lot of empty seats well into the second and even third inning" and fans "could be heard complaining quite loudly." This seems to be an issue at Rangers games "where the crowds exceed 40,000;" an announced crowd of 48,538 attended the final season opener at the park (Ft. Worth STAR-TELEGRAM, 3/29).

YOU ARE LOOKING LIVE: In Ft. Worth, Gordon Dickson in a front-page piece reports Thursday also was the "first Opening Day for Texas Live!, which opened late last summer to smaller crowds." Officials "estimated that roughly 30,000 people walked through their venue's doors" before the 3:05pm CT first pitch (Ft. Worth STAR-TELEGRAM, 3/29).
