Could Trout's Profile See Boost With Comical BodyArmor Spot?

Angels CF Mike Trout stars in a new BodyArmor ad with Colts QB Andrew Luck that features the pair "busting out their best disco-dance moves," and Trout's appearance "could shine more light on an athlete many in the sports world believe is relatively unknown, considering his lofty place in his sport," according to Scott Davis of BUSINESS INSIDER. Trout said the ad was "definitely out of my comfort zone." But he added after it was all done, it was "fun" and he had a "great time." Trout: "There's opportunities for me to do stuff. I don't do all of them. I gotta make sure that going out and playing is my top priority and let everything else fall from there." With that being said, Trout notes he tries to do "as much as I can." Trout: "When BodyArmor came to me with this ad ... I had really never done anything like this before. It's definitely out of my comfort zone." But Trout added he "really enjoyed" the experience (BUSINESSINSIDER.com, 3/27). USA TODAY's Ted Berg noted Trout in the ad does a "pretty convincing robot." Asked where he learned it, Trout said, "I just kind of rolled with what I do, and what I've seen people do." Trout said that the "security that comes with a lifetime commitment" from the Angels "allows for more off-field efforts like this one." Trout: "When opportunities come up to do something I enjoy doing, and get out there, I'll definitely be doing it" (USATODAY.com, 3/27).

EVERYBODY WINS: ADWEEK's T.L. Stanley writes for Trout, who keeps a "relatively low profile off the field and in the marketing world," the BodyArmor ad is a "solid step in breaking him out of his shell" (ADWEEK.com, 3/28). ESPN's Randy Scott said of the ad, "Who wins in a dance off between Andrew Luck and Mike Trout? We do. We all win. That's who wins." He added, "They could be in full uniform doing this. They don't need to be in the 70's garb but that just takes it that much higher" ("SportsCenter," ESPN, 3/28).

HELP ME HELP YOU: ESPN's Laura Rutledge said of Trout, "Why doesn't Major League Baseball market the face of its sport better? They say they've tried." She said Trout's "best qualities, his humility and blue-collar approach, might be limiting his popularity." Rutledge: "One thing's for sure, playing on the West Coast when young fans are asleep doesn't help" ("Get Up," ESPN, 3/28).
