New Texans Chair Cal McNair Honoring Late Father's Legacy

Texans Chair Cal McNair "wants to reassure fans the legacy" created by his father, late Texans Owner Bob McNair, "will continue with him in charge of the franchise," according to John McClain of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. Bob McNair's death in November "left a void in the organization and the city of Houston, but the transition to Janice McNair as the controlling owner" and Cal McNair as Chair has "resulted in a smooth conversion on and off the field." Cal said, "My dad put in a system, and it hasn't changed." Those who "know him best insist" that Cal "won't deviate from the standard his father established." While serving under his father's ownership, Cal was "involved in every major decision." Now, he is "around the team every day -- watching, listening and communicating" with coach Bill O'Brien, GM Brian Gaine and President Jamey Rootes to "gain as much knowledge as he can about the personnel and administrative sides of the organization." At some point, he will "put his stamp on the team, but his mission will always be to preserve his father's legacy" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 3/28).
