Dolphins Breaking Ground On New Training Facility This Summer

The Dolphins plan to "break ground on their new Miami Gardens training facility this summer," which is expected to cost the team between $75-80M to build, according to Adam Beasley of the MIAMI HERALD. The new facility is expected to "include enhanced fan amenities for training camp, including a grassy berm for seating plus seats within the indoor practice field." Other features, including a building for a sports medicine center, are "being considered as well" (MIAMIHERALD.com, 3/26). In West Palm Beach, Joe Schad noted the new practice facility is "on track" to open in '21. That means that for the next two summers, Dolphins training camp "will still be held" in Davie County. The Dolphins are hoping the new practice facility closer to Hard Rock Stadium will "allow for more space and modern facilities." Meanwhile, the Dolphins are "not planning to change back to their throwback uniforms or helmets on a permanent basis." However, the team is "planning to unveil a special alternate uniform" in time for this season (PALMBEACHPOST.com, 3/26).

The new training grounds that will include an indoor practice facility are set to open in Miami Gardens in '21dolphins

TANKS FOR NOTHING: Dolphins coach Brian Flores said that he was "offended by the thought of his new team being associated" with tanking. Flores: "The term tanking, I think it's disrespectful to the game. I really do." Dolphins Owner Stephen Ross and GM Chris Grier "believe they need to make calculated moves" that will allow the team to "get out of the mediocre rut it has been in" for years. Flores added, "To disrespect the game and use that term, it stirs something inside of me -- to put that nicely. Those are my feelings on it. ... So, no, there's no tanking. You can write that over, and over, and over again" (South Florida SUN SENTINEL, 3/27).
