Broncos President & CEO Joe Ellis said that Owner Pat Bowlen's daughter Brittany is "poised to re-join the organization, 'by the end of the year or within the year,'" according to Ryan O'Halloran of the DENVER POST. Brittany Bowlen last fall "expressed her intention to succeed her father as the Broncos’ controlling owner." She is currently based in Denver "working at the consulting firm McKinsey & Co., and previously worked for the Broncos for one year." Ellis said that she would "serve in a 'senior management position,' a major development in creating clarity for the future leadership of the team." O'Halloran writes it is "not a stretch to presume Bowlen’s return to the Broncos would set in motion a transition that ends with Ellis handing off day-to-day responsibilities." Brittany’s duties with the team will be "far-reaching but primarily contained to the business side." Asked if Brittany can handle the responsibility and scrutiny of succeeding her father, Ellis said, "I'm not sure. We're going to find out" (DENVER POST, 3/26).
CRITERIA COLLECTION: THE ATHLETIC's Nicki Jhabvala notes in February '15, the team's three non-family trustees sent Pat Bowlen's children and his current wife Annabel a memo "outlining the criteria to be considered for controlling ownership." It includes "five years of senior management experience with the league, team or Stadium Management Company, which operates the Broncos’ stadium." Brittany Bowlen "has the educational requirements, but a senior management role with the team will position her to meet the qualifications set forth." Last May, Beth Bowlen Wallace, another of Pat’s daughters, "publicly declared she is interested in becoming controlling owner" (THEATHLETIC.com, 3/26).
THE NAME GAME: The POST's O'Halloran reports the Broncos are "inching closer to finding a stadium-naming rights sponsor." Ellis said, “I feel better about it than maybe I did a year ago. But that doesn’t make me promise anything. I’m confident we’ll have a partner who is the right partner. We’re narrowing down on some details with a company, and I’m really hopeful we can bring a deal to closure. Will it be before the start of the season? I don’t know" (DENVER POST, 3/26).
