Wheels & Deals: Warner Brothers, SHR Partner To Promote "Shazam"

Warner Bros. Entertainment has struck a two-race sponsorship deal with Stewart-Haas Racing to promote the new “Shazam” movie. The deal, financial terms of which were not shared, starts with a primary on Aric Almirola’s No. 10 Ford this weekend at Martinsville Speedway and continues in two weeks at Bristol Motor Speedway. The movie, based on DC Comics’ superhero, premieres April 5, two days before the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol. SHR has worked with Warner Bros. in the past for the deal between Danica Patrick and the “Wonder Woman” series.

OIL CHANGE: STP will not have any primary sponsorships on Richard Petty Motorsports’ No. 43 this season, which has made RPM’s ongoing sponsorship struggles even more pronounced. STP has a 48-year relationship with Petty and will continue to serve as an associate sponsor on the No. 43 for every race this season, but those deals are worth significantly less than primaries. STP had traditionally been on the No. 43 for the annual spring race at Martinsville, where STP serves as the Cup Series race title sponsor, but was not listed as primary for this weekend. The company confirmed the switch. A source said the move is largely due to STP going through a re-branding after it was sold by its owner to Energizer last November for $1.25B.

NOTES: Honda has brought IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe back to star in its Honda Dream Garage Spring Event TVs ads that started running this week....Joe Gibbs Racing has signed a two-race deal with Sirius XM to serve as primary sponsor of Martin Truex Jr.’s No. 19 Toyota starting this weekend at Martinsville....Kroger is running its second seasonal paint scheme of the year this weekend on JTG Daugherty Racing’s No. 37 Chevrolet, and this one is based around spring cleaning. This is part of Kroger’s move to try a new idea of running themed paint schemes throughout the season that each run for a month and feature several closely related Kroger partners on the car.
