Lucas Oil Stadium's wireless infrastructure "could see significant improvements in the coming months" as part of a nearly $7M, three-way deal with the Colts, Capital Improvement Board and Verizon Wireless, according to Mickey Shuey of the INDIANAPOLIS BUSINESS JOURNAL. The new WiFi system would "add and relocate wireless access points -- used to connect to the internet -- to the entire 67,000-seat venue," with the three parties "expected to split the cost of the improvements evenly." Each group is expected to pay up to $2.33M "toward the costs of the upgrades, which are expected to be completed" by the start of the NFL preseason. CIB Exec Dir Barney Levengood said that the upgrades are part of a joint effort between the CIB and the Colts aimed at "improving the fan experience" at Lucas Oil Stadium. The new infrastructure would "see an unspecified number of modern wireless access points placed beneath the stadium's seats." Levengood said that these improvements would "position Lucas Oil Stadium 'in the top half' of the NFL" in regard to WiFi capabilities (IBJ.com, 3/15).
