People & Personalities: Jim "Bones" Mackay Dedicated To Golf Broadcast

GOLFWEEK's Steve DiMeglio noted NBC/Golf Channel's Jim Mackay "dedicates the same attention to detail as he did when he was caddying." He still "carries a yardage book and a greens book, both filled with notes from years gone by." He taps into his "vast memory bank, surveys every golf course." Mackay is still "searching for ways to get better." For instance, he is "always on the lookout for the best places to speak from, for the last thing he wants to do is have his voice force a player to back away from his shot." He is "making the effort to improve his vocabulary, typing into his iPhone words he comes to hear or read that he usually doesn’t use" (GOLFWEEK.com, 3/14).

LEADING MAN: In Chicago, Jeff Agrest notes BTN's Dave Revsine, who is hosting coverage of the Big Ten Tournament this weekend, has "been the face" of the net since it launched in '07. Revsine said Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany "blew me away" when he originally laid out plans for the net. Revsine: "I was so impressed with his vision for it. ... I thought to myself, man, I better get on board because this is where it’s happening" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 3/15).

NOTES: Joon Lee is "leaving Bleacher Report for ESPN." Friday will be his final day" at the website and he will begin contributing to ESPN on April 1. Lee's initial role will be "writing about baseball" (THEBIGLEAD.com, 3/14)....Houston-based KBME-AM sports talk host Josh Innes tweeted that his morning drive program had been "terminated for 'budget reasons.'" He was hired by the station in October '16 (CHRON.com, 3/13)....Atlanta-based WZGC-FM "got rid of mid-day hosts Rick Kamla and John Michaels." Sources said that it was a "budgetary decision more than a programming note." Kamla was "one of just two original hosts" from the launch in '12 who was still there (AJC.com, 3/13)....Bell Media made a "series of cuts Wednesday to several TSN sports radio stations" including the Dave Pratt-led morning show on CKST-AM (THEPROVINCE.com, 3/13).
