Cubs Interested In '20 London Matchup Against Rival Cardinals

MLB is considering Cubs-Cardinals or Mets-Nationals as potential matchups in London next yearGETTY IMAGES

The opportunity to play an international series in London is "very appealing to the Cubs despite potential travel issues," according to Mark Gonzales of the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. The opportunity could come as soon as '20 against the rival Cardinals, and Cubs 3B Kris Bryant said, "It would be awesome, a cool trip to go over there. I hope it's us." Gonzales notes MLB is considering Mets-Nationals and Cubs-Cardinals as "potential matchups" in London next year. A trip to England would "enhance the Cubs brand and give players a unique experience." Cubs P Brad Brach said, "Anytime you get to do something you love and do it in a different city, different country is an awesome experience." Bryant said that a London series shortly before the All-Star break would be "ideal because players would have the opportunity to spend extra time there before returning" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 3/12).

TRIAL PERIOD: In Chicago, Phil Rosenthal notes the Cubs' YouTube channel relaunched yesterday, with 18 videos "posted in the space of 15 minutes." The videos include a "mix of on-field and off-field clips, interviews, features and quirky bits." Cubs President of Business Operations Crane Kenney said, "It's really a precursor to our network channel because it's a chance for us to do long-form programming." In one segment from what will be an "ongoing feature on how ballplayers spent the offseason," viewers see P Pedro Strop's hometown in the Dominican Republic. On the "lighter side" of the channel are "segments that resemble talk-show stunts" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 3/12).
