Renovation Costs For PNC Arena Less Than Originally Thought

Any potential arena enhancements would be supported financially by Wake County and the City of RaleighCENTENNIAL AUTHORITY

Raleigh's Centennial Authority on Friday was presented with "architectural renderings of an enhanced and renovated" PNC Arena, and estimates are in the $167.4-201.8M range, according to Chip Alexander of the Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER. Among the proposed renovations include a "rooftop bar and restaurant on the south end facing Carter-Finley Stadium" and "removing some aisles on the lower level to add more seats." Any enhancements would be "contingent on the authority, the arena landlord, agreeing on a new lease" with the Hurricanes and their parent company, Gale Force Sports & Entertainment. The Hurricanes' current lease at PNC Arena expires in '24. Centennial Authority Chair Tom McCormick said they have "just begun talking" to the team about a new lease, and have hired a consultant. Money for the enhancements would come from Wake County and the City of Raleigh. PNC Arena enhancements and renovations "have been in the planning stage" since '15, and arena construction "would begin" in '20 (Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER, 3/9). A report last month stated the renovation costs would likely be in the $200-300M range (THE DAILY).
