"SNL" Takes Some Shots At WNBA In Latest Episode

“SNL” took a few shots at the WNBA this weekend when Kenan Thompson, Chris Redd and host Idris Elba starred in a skit titled, “The Gold Diggers of the WNBA,” a spoof of Bravo’s “Real Housewives” franchise. The actors played men trying to pick up WNBA players, with Elba’s "Terry" character saying, “Each one of these women have been sitting on a contract worth 60 to 90 Gs a year. Now if you play your cards right, some of that cheddar could be in your pocket.” Thompson’s "Lionel" said, “Imagine the lifestyle of being a kept man of a WNBA star. Two-bedroom condo, timeshare vacations in Orlando, shopping sprees at Nordstrom Rack.” Terry: “You may have drove here in a 2003 Toyota Camry, but you could leave here in the front seat of a 2016 Toyota Camry.” Lionel: “When the WNBA came around in 1996, it changed the gigolo game forever. A never-ending cycle of beautiful, athletic, middle-class women traveling from mid-major city to mid-major city, looking for a good time.” Cast member Leslie Jones played the role of a former WNBAer. Lionel: “She's one of the highest-paid ballers in the league. Almost $100,000 a year.” Terry: “Not to mention the five-figure endorsement deal with Palmer's Cocoa Butter.” Terry tried to talk to Jones' character, but she left with another female. Redd’s "Donnell" asked, “What are the odds that she leaves with another woman?” Terry: “Probably nine out of 10” (“SNL,” NBC, 3/10).
