The PGA Tour will have two new mobile fitness centers outfitted with Technogym smart connected equipment as part of a new partnership between the organizations. The mobile fitness units will travel to 62 PGA Tour events per year for players to use both before and after competition.

Equipment in the workout centers will include Technogym’s Skillrun treadmills and the Skilltools training kit, which includes resistance bands, foam rollers, medicine balls, and other equipment focused on body mobility and stability.

“Since the original fitness centers were introduced on [the PGA Tour] more than 30 years ago, we have seen how fitness has advanced our players’ performance and extended their careers,” said PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan at The Honda Classic, according to a press release. “As our sport grows, so do the expectations and the preparation needed to compete at the world-class level we see every week.”

The two new fitness centers also come with refrigerators, Smart TVs, Bluetooth surround sound, high speed Wi-Fi, as well as workout shoes and clothing for all players. Each mobile fitness unit is comprised of two semi-trailers (four trucks total). They’ll each travel about 24,000 miles annually between the U.S. and Canada to and from events. The PGA Tour’s new mobile fitness centers offer 200-square-feet more space than the Tour’s previous workout facilities, according to the press release.

Technogym has also served as the official fitness equipment supplier for the Olympic Games for the past seven Olympics, dating back to Sydney 2000. Weight lifting and physical fitness has become a staple regimen of today’s professional golfer. That change has likely contributed to today’s players hitting the ball further than ever before. In 1990, the average PGA Tour driving distance was 262.8 yards, while in 2018, it was 295.3 yards—an increase of more than 12 percent, according to Axios.
