Could Flyers, Kings Be Featured As Part Of NHL's Global Series?

A game overseas would mark the Flyers' first time participating in the NHL's Global SeriesGETTY IMAGES

Flyers season-ticket holders "were told there will be one fewer home game" in the '19-20 season and that the regular-season contest "will be played in Europe," according to a source cited by Sam Carchidi of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. The overseas game "will be an NHL event, and the league will make the announcement March 21." Sport.cz reported that the Flyers "would most likely start next season in Prague in the Czech Republic" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 3/7). Flyers President Paul Holmgren said the team is "not in a position to say anything" about the reported game (Delaware County DAILY TIMES, 3/7). In New Jersey, Dave Isaac notes hockey outlet The Fourth Period in November reported that the Kings "would open their season in Prague." If the Flyers "do indeed play a game overseas, it would be their first part of the NHL’s 'Global Series'" (CHERRY HILL COURIER POST, 3/7).

FLYING HIGH: In Philadelphia, John George noted prices "will rise next season" for most Flyers season-ticket holders. The increase "for about 10,000 seats" will be $3 per game. Those seats "represent more than half of the Wells Fargo Center." For another 15% of the arena, there "will be no increase." The big change "comes for fans whose season tickets fall into the areas with access to the new Center City Club at the Wells Fargo Center, which will be created during the off-season." The increase will be about 33% for 160 premium seats, which "already carry the highest price tag at an average of $260 per game." For the remaining lower-bowl seats that will have access to the Center City Club, ticket prices that "now average about $130 per game will increase" by as much as 89% (BIZJOURNALS.com, 3/6).
