CC Sabathia Won't Be Limited To Baseball Talk In New ESPN Deal

Sabathia did not ask the Yankees for permission before signing his deal with ESPNGETTY IMAGES

Yankees P CC Sabathia has "signed on with ESPN to do 15 appearances so far on a variety of shows," according to George King III of the N.Y. POST. It "isn’t every day that an active player moves into another field of work, but Sabathia has been doing the podcast 'Uninterrupted' with Ryan Ruocco for two years during the season." Sabathia, who recently announced he would retire after this season, said he "never asked" for the Yankees' blessing to sign with ESPN. One thing that appeals to Sabathia is that he "won’t be limited to discussing baseball." Sabathia: "I wanted to make sure I am not talking about (just) baseball. I watch some of the other sports and I am a fan of the other sports" (N.Y. POST, 3/6). Sabathia said, "On the days I am not pitching, I am up early anyways, so why not be in the studio and do what I like to do; talk about sports." ESPN said that Sabathia will "contribute analysis to 'various high-profile ESPN platforms.'" Yankees manager Aaron Boone, who worked as an analyst for ESPN before taking his current job, said that he "thinks it will be good" for Sabathia. Boone: "It’s good for him to branch out a little bit" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 3/6).
