Oklahoma Adding Wi-Fi, Wider Aisles To Football Stadium

AT&T is adding 750 Wi-Fi access points at Memorial Stadium on top of the 245 that already existGETTY IMAGES

Univ. of Oklahoma football fans will "enjoy wireless access during games as well as more room in seats and aisles" this season at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, according to Eric Bailey of the TULSA WORLD. The upgrades are part of a $14.9M plan approved by the OU BOR during a meeting in October. OU is "working with AT&T in making the wireless addition." The new system will be Wi-Fi 6, the "latest version of technology," and will have 750 access points "added to the 245 that exist in the south end zone." The handrail and widening projects "will decrease capacity" by about 3,000 (TULSA WORLD, 3/6). In Oklahoma City, Ryan Aber noted all seats in Memorial Stadium will be "at least 18 inches wide after the improvements." OU has tried to minimize disruption by "not re-selling affected seats when they became available since the start of the renovation project." Work is currently underway and is "expected to be completed for the season opener" August 31 against the Univ. of Houston (NEWSOK.com, 3/5).
