Full Sail Hopes New Esports Arena Attracts Top Gamers To Florida

The $6M, 11,200-square-foot customizable space will officially open in MayFULL SAIL

Full Sail Univ. in May will open a new esports arena that could "become a centerpiece in the region’s efforts to make Central Florida a competitive video gaming hub," according to Marco Santana of the ORLANDO SENTINEL. The $6M, 11,200-square-foot Fortress Sports Arena, a "customizable space equipped with high-tech monitors and video production equipment," will become "one of the largest college campus-based arenas dedicated to esports in the country." It will allow Full Sail to "participate in what has become a competitive arena -- attracting high-profile gamers to the school," though the school has "not established a scholarship program" for gamers. The arena has "space for up to 500 spectators, with the ability to host other activities, including drone racing." Full Sail President Garry Jones said that the university also plans to "make the site a hub for event production and technical instruction." The effort also "has support" from UCF, the Magic and Electronic Arts (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 3/6).
