A Day In The Life With FS1 Morning Host Nick Wright

NICK WRIGHT’s profile has grown immensely in recent years as he has broken onto the scene as a national sports personality. Wright co-hosts “First Things First” on FS1 alongside CRIS CARTER and JENNA WOLFE, and has a solo radio gig, “What's Wright,” on SiriusXM. No matter what, there is never a shortage of opinions on deck. Wright recently spoke to THE DAILY to lay out what his schedule looks.

3:30am: My first alarm goes off. I then have alarms that go off at 3:35, 3:36, 3:37 and 3:38. If I’m not up by the last one my wife DANIELLE will smack me because one of the alarms will have woken her up. I’m out of the bed by 3:40 at the latest and then out the door by 3:55. It’s very quick in the morning. I get a ride into work and on the way in the show producers have sent me a picture of the rundown to see if there’s any major changes that I think should be made. I’d say 98% of the time they’ve got it just right.

4:10am: I’m in the office at Fox Sports N.Y. studios. The next half hour is the production meeting. Coordinating Producer SAM PEPPER gets here before anyone -- around 2:00am -- and sets the board. Everyone else gets in around 3:00 and they start building the show.

6:05am: I get dressed. My wife works as a stylist for Fox Sports, and she picks out my clothes. They hired her to shop for my clothes and set my wardrobe. She’ll be in the office two or three days a week. Anything I wear on TV was picked and purchased by her.

6:15am: I run next door to the studio to do makeup. I’m out of the makeup chair at about 6:28 and then I’m on set, getting my microphones turned on about 90 seconds before air.

Between his duties on FS1 and SirusXM Radio, Wright spends over five hours each day on airNICK WRIGHT

6:30-9:30am: On air

9:35am: I go back to my office. I usually stick around for a little while because I can get my most non-work work done -- life stuff.

11:00am: I head home. Most days it’s a really easy subway ride. At least twice a week there’s a stop at Chipotle or a bodega by my house for a sandwich. I will have eaten nothing all day until after the show. I’ll drink two cups of coffee and that’s it.

12:00-3:00pm: I go to sleep.

3:00pm: Four out of five days a week I pick up my daughters, DIORRA and DEANNA, from school with my wife, sometimes by myself. There’s the occasional day I’m just too tired and she’ll pick them up without me. Now I try my best to not be on my phone to just be with the girls, do homework with them, talk about their day, maybe play a game of Sorry.

5:30pm: I go upstairs and I’m finalizing the topics for my radio show. My producer, JARED MOORE, and I will text and email throughout the day setting stuff up, but that’s a pretty self-contained operation. I do the call-screening on my computer, I sit in my son DAMONZA’s bedroom. He’s off in college in California. I usually have an NBA game on in front of me and just talk about the news of the day.

6:00-8:00pm: On air

8:00pm: My youngest goes to bed. I’ll read her a story and chill with her for a few minutes. Diorra may need extra homework help or want to show me something.

8:20pm: If it’s football season, two nights a week there’s a football game on, so I’m watching it. If it’s basketball season, there’s already games on and it depends on how relevant the game is. If it’s a light night in the NBA, then my wife and I will go out to a late dinner or do something just the two of us.

10:30pm: If the Lakers aren’t playing a West Coast game, I’m in bed by 11:30. If they are -- this is the curse of LEBRON JAMES going to L.A. -- I’m up until that game’s over. I’ve watched probably 98% of LeBron’s games in his career and it was so much easier when his games started at 7:00. Most nights I’m asleep by midnight.
