In Las Vegas, Mick Akers in a front-page piece reports chances are "bleak that a planned extension of the Las Vegas Monorail -- seen as a way to get tourists within easy walking distance of the Raiders’ new stadium -- will be finished" by the time the team begins play there in '20. Applied Analysis Principal Jeremy Aguero, whose firm serves as Las Vegas Stadium Authority staff, said that it is "too early to know what impact, if any, a delayed monorail extension will mean to the stadium project" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 2/14).
STILL WAITING: THE ATHLETIC's Audrey Snyder noted it has been "nearly two years since Penn State released its facility master plan" for making "improvements and upgrades" to athletic facilities. Beaver Stadium was "never part of the plan for at least the first five years of facility upgrades." However, the potential for the stadium to "have a brick exterior was something that stood out right away when they released the master plan" in '17. To make the viewing experience "more comfortable and to have their seating adhere to the standard, regulated seat sizes, they previously mentioned the eventual need to drop the capacity" (THEATHLETIC.com, 2/13).
TEAR IT DOWN: In Milwaukee, James Nelson noted demolition crews on Tuesday "ripped the front atrium" from the Bradley Center, which included a "large image" of Bucks F Giannis Antetokounmpo. The glass and debris "cascaded to the fenced-off plaza in front of the arena, the Bucks' home for 30 years." Similar work "resulted in the recent removal of the smaller glass atrium on the southwest corner of the building." The demolition work is "taking place during a lull in NBA activity at Fiserv Forum." The Bucks return home Feb. 21 (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 2/13).
