Franchise Notes

In Buffalo, Jay Skurski in a front-page piece reported the average price for a Bills season ticket in '19 is "rising by $1.85 per seat per game," a 2.11% increase. That comes after an average increase of 3% for the '18 season. One percent of the seats in New Era Field "will see an increase" of 10% percent or more. A total of 65% of seats "saw an increase of between $1 and $3 per game." As an example, the cheapest ticket "went from $33 to $35 per game, an increase" of 6%. However, a total of 7,700 seats at New Era Field "will see price reductions ranging from $8 to $22 per seat per game" (BUFFALO NEWS, 2/7).

LONDON CALLING: Packers QB Aaron Rodgers earlier this month told a U.K. outlet that he "would like to play a game in London" in the near future. In Green Bay, Richard Ryman notes Rodgers "echoed" Packers President & CEO Mark Murphy's previous comments on the international series. Like Murphy, Rodgers said that he hopes the league "will intervene eventually and make a Packers' opponent invite them to London." The Packers do not want to give up a home game, as the impact on the local economy would be "too great" (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 2/8).

THREE IS A MAGIC NUMBER: In Charlotte, Joe Marusak noted Dale Earnhardt Jr. "criticized plans" by the Single-A South Atlantic League Kannapolis Intimidators to "shed the nickname that honors his racing legend dad." Earnhardt tweeted, “I remember how proud dad was of this. What a shame it has to end.” Social media reaction to the planned renaming of the team was "overwhelmingly in favor of keeping the Intimidators name," the nickname Dale Earnhardt Sr. earned for his "prowess on NASCAR tracks" (CHARLOTTEOBSERVER.com, 2/7).
