Panthers' Bank Of America Stadium Sees Value Rise 324% Since '11

Bank of America Stadium saw its value surge from $135M to $572M following Mecklenburg County’s "first revaluation" since '11, according to front-page piece by Katherine Peralta of the CHARLOTTE OBSERVER. It represents a 324% rise, which may ultimately lead to a "much higher tax bill for the Panthers." According to county tax records, the Panthers paid $1.84M in taxes on the facility last year. As they have done in past appeals, the Panthers could argue that their facility is an "aging stadium that’s depreciated in value over time." The revaluation comes at a time when Panthers Owner David Tepper is "weighing the future" of the venue. It is one of the oldest in the NFL, so the team may "consider more renovations or a new facility before long." Sportscorp President Marc Ganis said that the Panthers are "one of few NFL teams that pay any property taxes." Ganis anticipates the team will appeal its new valuation, which he said "seems excessive as an increase on a percentage basis" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 2/7).
