Univ. of Georgia athletics made a $42.758M profit in FY '18, with $32.297M of that surplus helping "fund capital projects for the west end zone side of Sanford Stadium" and the football team's indoor practice facility, according to Marc Weiszer of the ATHENS BANNER-HERALD. UGA reported $176,699,893 in operating revenue and $133,941,585 in operating expenses. The profit was $4.124M more than the department made in FY '17. UGA AD Greg McGarity said the financial report was “very positive,” as other schools have shown “bottom lines that weren’t very healthy.” UGA's operating revenue jumped $18,847,414 while its expenses increased $14,722,677. Ticket sales -- which "don’t yet take into account a football ticket price increase for last season" -- accounted for $25,965,902 in revenue. UGA’s total football revenue was $129,023,591 while its expenses were $44,909,546, a profit of $84.1M (ATHENS BANNER-HERALD, 2/5).

SOARING EARNINGS: In Birmingham, Sam Blum noted Auburn athletics collected a total revenue of $147,620,569 for FY '18, netting a total profit of $7,822,378. The profit margin is "significantly lower" than FY '17, when the school earned a profit of $14.6M. The total revenue marks "slightly less" than a $109,000 increase from '17, and is up nearly $7M from '16. Auburn collected $33,213,941 in ticket sales in '18, up around $300,000 from the year prior. The athletics department collected $1,885,872 in "direct institutional support from Auburn." This is just the fourth year Auburn athletics has "collected income from the university" (AL.com, 2/5).
