Several Patriots Say They Wouldn't Visit White House If Invited

Jason McCourty (l) said that there was virtually zero chance he would visit the houseJASON & DEVIN MCCOURTY

Patriots S Devin McCourty said that he "won't go to the White House" if the team is invited by President Trump, and twin brother Pats CB Jason McCourty said that he "highly doubts he would make the trip," according to Jimmy Golen of AP. Jason McCourty said, "I haven't thought about it, but I highly doubt it." Golen noted Devin McCourty then "playfully accused" his brother of lying, and Jason McCourty "agreed there was virtually zero chance he would go" (AP, 2/4). In DC, Des Bieler noted Pats S Duron Harmon "expressed a strong interest in meeting" with President Obama instead of visiting the White House. Harmon said, "That would be dope. Hey, Obama, come holler at me. We love you over here." Bieler noted if recent history is any indication, the McCourtys and Harmon will be "joined by at least a few more teammates in declining the trip, although not all necessarily for stated reasons related to Trump." There is "no doubt at this point that the Patriots will send a contingent of some sort to the White House later this year, unlike the Eagles" after they beat the Patriots in Super Bowl LII (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 2/4).

NOT READY, YET: In L.A., Arash Markazi wrote it "wasn't a shock to walk around the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday and see Rams fans outnumbered 10-1 by Patriots fans." Markazi: "When you leave a market for a generation and play with their emotions along the way, it's hard to capture their hearts the moment you walk through the door. ... Other cities might call us frontrunners, but we refuse to blindly support a team the moment they plant their flag in the ground here just because they can afford to buy the land and the flag." The Rams are "on their way" to becoming one of L.A.'s "beloved teams again but it will take time." The Rams will be "back sooner or later and when they do return to the Super Bowl, they'll likely have more support in the stadium and at home than they did on Sunday" (L.A. TIMES, 2/4).
