Negotiations For Raiders To Play '19 Season At Oracle Park Continue

The Giants' home likely would seat between 38,000-40,000 fans for footballGETTY IMAGES

The Raiders are still looking at the possibility of playing in S.F. next season, as "negotiations are continuing" for the team to play home games at the Giants' Oracle Park, according to a source cited by Matt Kawahara of the S.F. CHRONICLE. The NFL would have to "approve a deal," and the 49ers would have to "waive their territorial rights" in S.F. Sources said that the latter "has not happened" yet. The Raiders in December "withdrew from a tentative agreement to play one more season" at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum before moving to Las Vegas in '20. That decision "came a day after the City of Oakland filed a federal lawsuit against the team and the NFL over the Raiders’ impending relocation." The league has reportedly "conducted a site survey of Oracle Park to determine whether it could host the Raiders for a season." The ballpark "likely would seat" 38,000-40,000 for football (S.F. CHRONICLE, 2/4). NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell last week saidthe hope of Raiders Owner Mark Davis is to "continue to be in the Bay Area with the Raiders’ fans" for their final season before the Las Vegas move. The AP's Josh Dubow noted the Raiders are "still planning to practice at their facility in Alameda, making staying in the Bay Area the most logical choice." Davis has "always been opposed to sharing the stadium with the 49ers and the legal wrangling with officials in Oakland have soured him on that option," leaving Oracle Park as his "possible preferred choice" (AP, 2/4).
