Nashville Goes Big On Music, Entertainment For NFL Draft Plans

The '19 NFL Draft in Nashville will "resemble a music festival as much as a roster-building event for pro football teams," according to a front-page piece by Nate Rau of the Nashville TENNESSEAN. The Draft will primarily take place at the end of lower Broadway near the Cumberland River, and an "enormous stage will be constructed at the intersection of First Avenue and Broadway where players will emerge to hug Commissioner Roger Goodell and pose for photos after they are drafted." Fans can attend the Draft "free of charge." Large viewing screens will be "arranged all along lower Broadway." Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. President & CEO Butch Spyridon said that the expectation is that the crowd will "swell to tens of thousands." A crowd of "over 100,000 fans is likely." On the east bank of the Cumberland River adjacent to Nissan Stadium, the NFL will "set up a draft village called the NFL Draft Experience with a litany of interactive games, food trucks, and more live music." The area will include an "autograph stage with current players and legends, interactive games including football clinics and a Play 60 Zone for small fans." The event will also "feature two stages -- one on each side of the river -- for live music." Spyridon said that the lineup would "include A-list acts and cover multiple genres." The NFL chose Nashville because of the city’s "ability to mix sports and entertainment," as proven by the Predators’ Stanley Cup Playoffs run two years ago (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 1/30).
