A's President Says Team Will Place Emphasis On Streaming Service

The A’s plan to maintain a "traditional radio home for their broadcasts" in '19 after leaving KGMZ-FM, but the team also will be "emphasizing their streaming service first and foremost in the coming season," according to Susan Slusser of the S.F. CHRONICLE. A's President Dave Kaval said, "Terrestrial radio is kind of dying and we need to look long-term at how you get in front of people with audio." He added that the A's are "close to finalizing partnerships for distributing their audio content." The A's have no traditional radio deal in place after the team’s "acrimonious departure" from KGMZ. The team has "considered purchasing a local radio station," with KGO-AM among the four or five options, but "negotiations have been unsuccessful." The Bay Area has "few radio outlets with sufficient reach to cover the entire region." So the A’s might have to "buy time on two or more non-sports stations if they are to serve their fans." Kaval: "Suffice it to say, we’ll have a terrestrial option that’s better than what we had" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 1/25).
