MLB Media Notes: McCarver Returns For Sixth Season At FS Midwest

In St. Louis, Dan Caesar reports FS Midwest Cardinals analyst Tim McCarver "plans to be back for another season" on FS Midwest. McCarver said he and the RSN have not worked out the number of games he will call. FS Midwest has "not announced its roster for the season, but it is expected that all its broadcasters from last year other than Al Hrabosky will be back in the booth." McCarver has been "doing between 30 and 40 games," but that could "increase as the Hrabosky games ... are divvied among him, Ricky Horton, Jim Edmonds and Brad Thompson" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 1/18).

WELCOME TO THE TEAM: Mets radio play-by-play man Howie Rose "will be joined by Wayne Randazzo in booth for games" in '19. Randazzo replaces Josh Lewin, who joined the Padres broadcast team. Ed Coleman "will do the Mets’ pregame" on WCBS-AM, while Randazzo "will be on the postgame." WCBS sports anchor Brad Heller "will back up Coleman on the pregame" (N.Y. POST, 1/18).

RAY OF SUNSHINE: Tricia Whitaker has been "named the new in-game reporter for Rays telecasts" on FS Sun, becoming the "fifth reporter to work on Rays broadcasts over six seasons." Whitaker will "join the rest of the Rays TV crew expected to return: Dewayne Staats, Brian Anderson, Rich Hollenberg, Orestes Destrade and Doug Waechter" (TAMPABAY.com, 1/16).

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES: In Cincinnati, Paul Daugherty writes Reds fans "don't know how great" they have "had it for 46 years" with team radio voice Marty Brennaman, who will retire after this season. One of his "not-talked-about talents is his ability to make his partners better." It is "subtle and generous." The "best thing" about Brennaman as a broadcaster is, he "does not insult our collective intelligence." He "doesn’t say things are good when they obviously are not." Daugherty: "We’ll be a lesser place without his voice" (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 1/18).

STAYING ON-SCREEN: Former Yankees manager Joe Girardi said he does "want to manage again," but he is "going to do another year of TV" at MLB Network. He said, “I really enjoy it, so I’m going to spend another year working at MLB and possibly doing some games as well with Fox and I’m excited about the year” (NEWSDAY, 1/17).
