Fox' Coverage Of PBA May Give Tour A Much Needed Boost

Fox' coverage of the PBA offers information on ball performance previously unavailableTOM CLARK

FS1 on Sunday aired its first of 19 live PBA telecasts, and the net may be giving the tour what it "needs to get into the 21st century," according to Pete Dougherty of the Albany TIMES UNION. Fox' imprint was "evident from the start, when a new-age open used quick-hitting sound bites" to get fans ready for the coverage. The biggest change, a "technological advancement rolled out last month in a taped telecast, is 'Strike Track.'" It offers information on "ball performance previously unavailable: miles per hour, revolutions per minute, breakpoint and position at arrows." The important aspect of all this data will be to have "some perspective, and analyst Randy Pedersen, at least for this show, was spot-on doing that." He and play-by-play voice Rob Stone "brought a lot of energy." The players were miked, and they had "some interesting things to say when Stone and Pederson stayed quiet long enough" to allow viewers to listen (Albany TIMES UNION, 1/8).
