Arizona State Using L.A. Billboards To Increase Presence In SoCal

All of the Sun Devils featured on the billboards are from Southern CaliforniaARIZONA STATE

Arizona State has put up six billboards in the L.A. area "aimed at ASU alumni and boosters" as part of a new marketing campaign from the athletic department, according to Jeff Metcalfe of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. The billboards are "strategically located on L.A. freeways including the heavily traveled 405." ASU Athletics Chief Business Development Officer Gabe Cagwin: "You always hear there wasn't much ASU presence in past years in southern California. This was a way to help our donors get more involved, to let people know southern Cal is a priority for us, to get more people coming out for games and drive some new revenue." The billboard messaging features ASU Recruiting Dir Antonio Pierce and four football players, "all of whom are from southern California and started at ASU as freshmen." The campaign "came out of brainstorming" by ASU AD Ray Anderson and other senior staff. Phoenix-based OH Partners "handled the minimalist messaging -- So. Cal Devils Get on Board." The billboards have been "up for a few weeks and will continue during January" (AZCENTRAL.com, 1/7).
