PowerVision Technology Group is launching a multifunctional marine drone called the PowerDolphin at CES 2019. Equipped with an intelligent underwater camera and radar, PowerDolphin is intended for use in fishing, surfing, swimming, and other water sports.

The drone is equipped with a 220-degree dual joint rotation camera that can capture 4K definition photos and video. The camera can rotate 70 degrees above water and 150 degrees below the water. PowerDolphin includes adjustable front lights to capture illuminated photography in various water conditions and can swim as fast as 11 miles per hour.

“The PowerDolphin is a new lifestyle robot that is not only suitable for water sports, photography, and fishing. It is a product that will help a scientist explore marine life in many different ways,” said Wally Zheng, founder and CEO of PowerVision, in a press release. “From ocean reefs to animal observation the PowerDolphin is a multipurpose tool.”

Equipped with an intelligent sonar device and GPS waypoint function, PowerDolphin’s integrated PowerSeeker feature is capable of detecting fish in real-time within 131 feet to help determine active fishing spots or perhaps even alert swimmers of potential shark-infested waters. The remote-controlled PowerDolphin can tow hooks to attempt to lure fish to any desired location, robotically enhancing fishing success.

California-based PowerVision Technology Group was founded in 2009. The PowerDolphin drone is on display at CES 2019 in Las Vegas and is available for preorder at $1,299.

While most airborne drones feature little more than a camera onboard, the PowerDolphin is far less limited in the weight it can carry. As well as taking pictures and video, the drone is built with a space designed to carry life jackets and other life saving devices. A person operating the device could therefor use its vision to navigate toward a struggling swimmer, bringing them flotation devices.
