Former NFLer, Social Media Favorite Pat McAfee To Call Lions-Packers

McAfee (r) last month called the Texas Tech-Baylor football game in Arlington for Fox Sportstwitter

Former NFLer Pat McAfee will make his "NFL broadcasting debut" with Fox as an analyst for Sunday's Lions-Packers game, according to Akeem Glaspie of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR. He will be "working with play-by-play announcer Justin Kutcher, color commentator Robert Smith and sideline reporter Sarah Kustok." McAfee has become a "popular sports personalty since hanging up his cleats" after the '16 season. As he transitions to the booth, McAfee said that he will "remain fair in his analysis despite his personal connections" to Packers interim coach Joe Philbin, who was a Colts assistant coach when McAfee played there (INDYSTAR.com, 12/27). In Michigan, Nate Atkins notes McAfee during a recent podcast stated that NFL broadcasts "can be too serious, and he wants to make this one more of a show." He is "known well on Twitter, where he makes light of lots of the plays that other former players like to break down." Lions-Packers carries no playoff implications, meaning it is a "lower-stakes game to try out his craft," but McAfee's presence "should provide something to listen for" (MLIVE.com, 12/28).
