ESPN's "MNF" Season Audience Up 8% After Record Low Last Year

ESPN averaged 11.6 million viewers for “MNF” this season, its best mark for the package since 12.9 million viewers in ’15. Last year, “MNF” had a record-low audience of 10.8 million viewers. ESPN won primetime among all networks -- broadcast or cable -- on all 16 nights that "MNF" aired this season. “MNF” games also were the most-viewed telecast on a Monday for 15 of 16 days. New Orleans kept its spot as the top market for “MNF,” averaging a 14.4 local rating. That is up from a 12.3 last season. Two years ago, Norfolk led all “MNF” markets with a 12.0 rating, while three years ago, Las Vegas led the way with a 14.0 local rating. Meanwhile, after finishing with the lowest overnight rating for any “MNF” game on record, the Broncos-Raiders Week 16 game finished with 8.6 million viewers, which is not the lowest mark for a “MNF” game. Broncos-Raiders on Christmas Eve was the least-watched “MNF” game this season, but still well above the all-time low of 8.0 million viewers for Falcons-Saints in Week 3 in ’16, which went up against the first Trump-Clinton presidential debate. Broncos-Raiders is the ninth-lowest viewership yet for “MNF.”
