Oilers, Edmonton Builder Find Success With Fan Cave Concepts

Autographed jerseys, working goal lights and customized murals are included in the fan cavesCOVENTRY HOMES

Edmonton-based builder Coventry Homes has unveiled a "newly bolstered" lineup of Oilers fan caves and "continues to see a growing interest" in the option, according to Laura Severs of the EDMONTON JOURNAL. Coventry, an Oilers sponsor, is now offering a "more sophisticated take on the fan cave concept" that "focuses on the current team." It includes a "wood feature wall" with a large Oilers logo and "two customized wall murals showcasing on-ice action." Autographed jerseys from G Cam Talbot and C Leon Draisaitl "flank the dual TV screens." There is also an "air hockey table with custom Rogers Place ice detailing," as well as "working goal lights and a horn." An adjacent full bathroom also "provides a touch of hockey, with laces attaching the shower curtain that is emboldened with the words 'eat, sleep, hockey' and includes a team photo on the wall, while goal-light fixtures accent the space." Oilers Entertainment Group Chief Commercial Officer Stew MacDonald said that the fan caves are "resonating with Oilers fans." Coventry said that reaction has been "overwhelmingly positive." They have been "visited by numerous players and former Oilers including Louie DeBrusk, Grant Fuhr, Dave Lumley and Marty McSorley." MacDonald said that the Oilers "appear to be the only NHL team that is partnering with a local builder" to create fan caves. But he added, "We've certainly had conversations about it with other teams when we're at league meetings" (EDMONTON JOURNAL, 12/20).
