Mountain West, Atlantic 10 Agree On Hoops Tie-Up Starting In '20-21

The Atlantic 10 and Mountain West have a "new partnership that will pit men's basketball teams of both conferences against each other for at least two seasons, and up to four," according to Epps Jr. & O'Connor of the RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH. The Mountain West/Atlantic 10 Challenge will begin in '20-21, and games will be "played in November and December each season, with 10 games a year." Each conference will "host five games apiece." Factors that will be taken into account for the machups include "previous year's records, NET rankings and team achievements, as well as projected rankings and anticipated strength of teams for the upcoming season." Richmond men's basketball coach Chris Mooney said that the new setup is a "great idea and will provide great matchups." Mooney added that scheduling is a "really challenging thing, and is going to be more so with Power Five conferences" moving to 20-game in-conference schedules (RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH, 12/21). In Ohio, David Jablonski noted the challenge of having 10 games means four A-10 teams and one MWC team "won't play in the series each season" (DAYTON DAILY NEWS, 12/21).
