Tennis Channel Adding Control Room At USTA's National Campus

Tennis Channel is building a control room at the USTA's National Campus in Lake Nona, Fla., and the net plans to use the facility to broadcast collegiate and junior events. The station is owned by Sinclair and is based in L.A., where its main control room is located. As part of the USTA agreement, which runs through '22, Tennis Channel will air matches and additional programming from USTA Pro Circuit tournaments, College MatchDays and USTA League, Wheelchair and Junior National Championships, a number of which will take place at the USTA National Campus. The control room is 500 square feet and is in the main Campus headquarters building. Opened in '17, the 64-acre Campus has 100 courts and hosts numerous tennis events. Tennis Channel CEO Ken Solomon said the net will use the setup to experiment with remote coverage that would allow the channel to cover more matches. Tennis Channel ultimately plans to use this remote coverage to cover grassroots events around the country. The cost to build the control center is believed to be in either the high six figures or low seven figures. Tennis Channel will have two full-time employees based there.
