Teams Will Now Be Involved With Jr. NBA Championship Event
NBA teams now will be involved in the second annual Jr. NBA Global Championship set for Aug. 6-11 as the league unveils new details to build the tournament held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando. New for the youth tournament in '19 is a layer of more than 20 local tournaments to qualify for the championship -- 14 of which will be hosted by NBA teams in their respective markets to allow for more boys and girls teams in the U.S. The NBA teams involved are the Celtics, Cavaliers, Mavericks, Nuggets, Warriors, Grizzlies, Pelicans, T'Wolves, Thunder, Magic, Suns, Kings, Spurs and Wizards. In addition, USA Basketball will partner with the NBA on the event with support in all eight U.S. regional tournaments. The program will also expand in Latin America and in Asia. Qualifying competitions will tip off in January and run through June. Thirty-two teams will participate in the August championship event, the same number as last year. Fox and FS1 will again televise the Jr. NBA Global Championship in the U.S. as part of a multiyear deal it signed with the NBA last year.
