Disney Could Split Up Fox RSNs Between Multiple Buyers

Disney is in the process of selling Fox' 22 RSNs and has "decided to offer up the networks piecemeal," according to Kosman & Morgan of the N.Y. POST. Sources said that Disney had hoped to sell the RSNs to a "single buyer in a deal to address antitrust concerns." A single deal would have "made regulatory approvals simpler and quicker -- a pressing concern given the RSNs must be sold within 90 days of Disney’s closing on its Fox deal." Sources said that Disney is "now conducting management meetings with multiple suitors, including those interested in just a single RSN." Sinclair Broadcasting is the "only known serious party that has made an offer for all the RSNs." But sources said that it was a "lowball bid." Apollo Global Management, which counts 76ers/Devils Managing Partner Josh Harris among its owners, also has "bid for nearly all of the RSNs but needs a strategic partner, and so has local-TV giant Nexstar Media Group." But sources said that Nexstar is "not seen as a serious suitor." Meanwhile, sources said that Charter Communications "has bid" for FS South. Twins Chair Jim Pohlad also has "expressed interest" in FS North. Sources said that there is a "chance late suitors will emerge to bolster the auction." MLB has "expressed interest in buying some, or maybe all, of the RSNs" (N.Y. POST, 12/11).
