Curry-Hosted PGA Tour Event Looks Headed To Lake Merced Golf Club

Curry, despite competing in previous Web.com Tour events, is not expected to play in the '19 tourneyGETTY IMAGES

Lake Merced Golf Club outside S.F. last week “approved a proposal" to make more than $3.6M million in course upgrades, a "prerequisite” to holding a PGA Tour event in September hosted by Warriors G Stephen Curry, according to Ron Kroichick of the S.F. CHRONICLE. Octagon, which reps Curry and is “set to run the event," will cover $2.8M of those costs. PGA Tour officials had approved Lake Merced “as the tournament venue, pending an agreement on course changes.” Landing a title sponsor for the tournament is the “only remaining obstacle, and Octagon and tour officials are close to a deal with an East Bay-based company.” Curry is “expected to actively recruit tour pros to play in the event,” though he himself “would not play” (S.F. CHRONICLE, 12/8).
