Red Sox' Kennedy: Easy Decision To Accept White House Invite

Red Sox President & CEO Sam Kennedy said the team's decision to visit the White House was "relatively easy," according to Darren Harwell of NBCSPORTSBOSTON.com. Kennedy confirmed that the team "received an invitation from President Donald Trump's office 'about a month ago' to celebrate" their World Series. While the invitation has "caused some 'discussion' involving" manager Alex Cora and President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski, Kennedy "insisted there was no 'disagreement' within the Red Sox about whether to accept Trump's invite." Kennedy, in an appearance on WEEI-AM's "Dale & Holley" show, said, "We talked a lot about it, but there was actually no disagreement. Quite the opposite." Kennedy added that the Red Sox are "trying to figure out logistics and dates" for the visit. He said, "We don't see it as a political event. Clearly when you go to the White House, it's an honor and a privilege and one that we take very, very seriously. It has never been from our perspective an endorsement of a politician or a policy or procedures" (NBCSPORTSBOSTON.com, 12/4).

STRENGTH OF CHARACTER: A BOSTON HERALD editorial states that the Red Sox are "doing the right thing" by accepting Trump's invitation. It shows a "superb strength of character for Cora to show willingness to meet and engage with the president." Cora has "seemingly done just about everything right since taking the helm and maybe his talents can translate to the political." Maybe the conversations during the visit will "yield results or at least act as a model for the rest of us" (BOSTON HERALD, 12/5).
