Nets Embrace Rowdy Fans In Section 114 At Barclays Center

Section 114, known as "The Block," houses a group of like-minded fans who have become a communitynets

Section 114 at Barclays Center is a "rowdy section purposely set in a corner of the arena" where Nets fans, who "rarely sit down, wouldn't obstruct anyone else's view," according to Kelly Whiteside of the N.Y. TIMES. Fans in this section, referred to as The Block, "razz opposing players and shout singsongy chants like 'Jo-ey Buck-ets'" for Nets G Joe Harris and "Fear the Fro" for C Jarrett Allen. The Nets officially adopted The Block this year by "holding tryouts and giving away 50 season tickets, memorabilia and the occasional in-game case of Modelo." The section is now "officially known as 'The Block: Home of the Brooklyn Brigade.'" The Brigade was founded by Bobby Edemeka when the team "moved to Brooklyn." Edemeka in '12 "gave away 20 game tickets via a Nets fan site." This group of "diverse but like-minded fans soon became a community." Nicholas Tishuk, an early member of the Brigade, said, "They want to encourage a fan base from the grass-roots level, and this is what they hope most of the Barclays Center will look like in a couple years down the line." Nets VP/Game Presentation Paul Kamras: "My goal for that section is, from the moment the doors open, to be like a Duke game. ... We wanted to take passionate fans and have something we can count on each and every night, to be the fire starter for the rest of the arena" (N.Y. TIMES, 12/4).
