Franchise Notes

The Pirates will donate 100% of "revenue from autograph tickets at this year's PiratesFest" -- held Jan. 26 at PNC Park -- to "Pittsburgh-area first responders." The donation follows the $50,000 the Pirates "already gave after the Oct. 27 shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue that killed 11 people." That contribution was "divided between the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh's Victims of Terror fund, the Pittsburgh Fraternal Order of Police Injured Officers Fund, and a new Public Safety Support trust fund" (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 11/29).

BUSY BLUES: The Revolution's "charity match" with EPL Club Chelsea, which will be held at Gillette Stadium, is a "go." The "difficult part will be wedging the game" into Chelsea's busy schedule. There is "little chance" the game can be played until next summer. Chelsea will "not be treating the match against the Revolution as an afterthought," as manager Maurizio Sarri has been "ordered to field a lineup of first-teamers" (BOSTON GLOBE, 11/29).

FAMILY FEUD: In Colorado Springs, Woody Paige wrote the Broncos have "sunk into an abysmal abyss off the field" with the contentious ownership battle among members of the Bowlen family. Broncos Owner Pat Bowlen "never would have authorized or accepted this bad blood-letting battle." Instead, he wanted one of his children to "continue the Broncos' winning tradition that stretched over four decades" (Colorado Springs GAZETTE, 11/28).
