Mariners Chair: Internal Review Finds Allegations Unfounded

An internal review found claims of racism and sexism against Dipoto and two others to be unfoundedGETTY IMAGES

Mariners Chair & Managing Partner John Stanton in an email sent to team employees Friday afternoon said that the club did a "'thorough internal review' of the allegations of racism and sexism" brought by former Mariners Dir of High Performance Lorena Martin against three top team officials and "determined her claims were unfounded," according to Ken Rosenthal of THE ATHLETIC. According to the email, Martin "first made her allegations" against Exec VP & GM Jerry Dipoto, manager Scott Servais and Dir of Player Development Andy McKay a "week after the Mariners dismissed her on Oct. 10." Stanton said that the team "took the allegations seriously and turned the matter over to its human resources and legal departments." He "expressed confidence that a pending investigation" by MLB would "reach the same conclusion the Mariners did, adding that no one has corroborated Martin's allegations or made their own claims against Dipoto, Servais and McKay" (THEATHLETIC.com, 11/16).
