Adidas Unveils Service-Inspired Uniforms For Miss. State, Others

Mississippi State will "don special 'Statesmen' uniforms in honor" of late U.S. Rep. and World War II vet Sonny Montgomery for its final home game of the season against Arkansas on Nov. 17, according to Logan Lowery of the Northeast Mississippi DAILY JOURNAL. The Adidas uniforms are "inspired by the Mississippi Air National Guard C-17 Globemaster III plane named in Montgomery’s honor." The font of the letters and numerals on the uniform "mimic those used on the plane" and the "hand-painted helmets are inspired by the tail of the plane and features the various medals awarded to Montgomery during his time in the service." The jerseys feature the word "State" and the pants have "Spirit of G.V. ‘Sonny’ Montgomery” scripted down the right leg and “Mississippi State" running up the left leg (DJOURNAL.com, 10/30).

MORE SALUTES FROM ADIDAS: In K.C., Pete Grathoff reported Kansas will wear special Adidas "Salute to Service" jerseys for Saturday's game against TCU that "recognize the students and faculty who served in World War II." The jerseys have a "striped blue-and-red shoulder pattern that was worn by the Jayhawks football team in the 1940s," while the white and light gray color scheme "mirrors the color of the fighter planes" from that era. The "font for the word Jayhawk is an homage to ones used on the planes in the war" (KANSASCITY.com, 10/30). Arizona State also has unveiled its '18 Salute to Service uniforms, which the team "will wear against UCLA on Nov. 10." The uniform has the "classic ASU gold helmet/maroon jersey/gold pants combination but the helmet features the PT 42 shield on the left side, in honor of Pat Tillman." The right side of the helmet has the "oversized ASU pitchfork." The jersey has "some camouflage in the design." On the "back of the jersey, the player's names have been removed and in its place" is an inspirational phrase (AZCENTRAL.com, 10/29). Nebraska last month unveiled their World War I-inspired Adidas jerseys, which will be worn for the Nov. 10 game against Illinois (THE DAILY).
