Franchise Notes

In Ottawa, Vito Pilieci noted the Senators have secured a $30M "short-term credit line with BMO." The Senators said that the five-year loan "will be used to give the team access to short-term credit as well as allowing the team to buy U.S. dollars when exchange rates are more attractive." U.S. currency is "typically used" by NHL teams to "pay its players" (OTTAWASUN.com, 10/30).

SAME OLD STORY: In Pennsylvania, Matthew DeGeorge writes the Union has been "stubbornly at rest for the bulk of its existence," and to "break that static attraction, to roll itself out of park, it requires a force, one whose magnitude grows by the day." The MLS club has "compiled nine hefty seasons of inactivity," and the "conclusion time and again has grown increasingly inescapable: As a team, a club, an organization, the Union are not good enough." The only thing that "will alter that trajectory is a significant change" (Delaware County DAILY TIMES, 11/1).

ANY TAKERS? THE ATHLETIC's Dan Connolly wrote because the Orioles were the worst team in baseball in '18, "running this club may not seem like a particularly enticing job," for potential president and GM candidates, especially in the same division as the Red Sox and Yankees. If "what the Angelos sons are selling" is true, the new top baseball exec is "going to be given final say on all baseball matters." That is "something that’s not been the norm in Baltimore." All indications are that the Orioles "will be hiring for both" a president to "oversee everything and then a GM to conduct daily business" (THEATHLETIC.com, 10/31).
