Univ. Of Vermont BOT Approves Construction Of $95M Arena Project

Vermont's new venue will seat roughly 3,200 for basketball and nearly 4,000 for other events UNIV. OF VERMONT

The Univ. of Vermont's BOT "unanimously approved" a $95M project for the school's multipurpose athletics facility, according to a front-page piece by Alex Abrami of the BURLINGTON FREE PRESS. After "years of fits and stops to build a new sports arena," the BOT's vote "paves the way for construction to start as early as this winter -- if UVM meets fundraising goals and secures required permits." UVM "plans to open the facility" for the '20-21 school year. UVM AD Jeff Schulman said the school is "well on our way" to reaching the $30M fundraising goal set forth by the board. Schulman: "We are going to continue ... knocking on doors and raising money for this project up to and through the construction phase." Schulman said that the rest of the $60M will be "covered by other institutional sources." Abrami noted one of the highlights of the arena project is a "new events center, adjacent to Gutterson Fieldhouse, that will house the men's and women's basketball programs." The venue will "seat roughly 3,200 for basketball and nearly 4,000 for events" (BURLINGTON FREE PRESS, 10/31).
