Vermont's new venue will seat roughly 3,200 for basketball and nearly 4,000 for other events UNIV. OF VERMONT
The Univ. of Vermont's BOT "unanimously approved" a $95M project for the school's multipurpose athletics facility, according to a front-page piece by Alex Abrami of the BURLINGTON FREE PRESS. After "years of fits and stops to build a new sports arena," the BOT's vote "paves the way for construction to start as early as this winter -- if UVM meets fundraising goals and secures required permits." UVM "plans to open the facility" for the '20-21 school year. UVM AD Jeff Schulman said the school is "well on our way" to reaching the $30M fundraising goal set forth by the board. Schulman: "We are going to continue ... knocking on doors and raising money for this project up to and through the construction phase." Schulman said that the rest of the $60M will be "covered by other institutional sources." Abrami noted one of the highlights of the arena project is a "new events center, adjacent to Gutterson Fieldhouse, that will house the men's and women's basketball programs."
