Adidas Using Vending Machines To Give Fans Gear During World Series

Adidas installed the digital vending machines in two sports bars, one in Boston and one in L.AADIDAS

Red Sox and Dodgers fans are "getting a treat this World Series in the form of a digital vending machine that's giving fans gear to celebrate their wins," according to Mike Oz of YAHOO SPORTS. Adidas has "installed the digital vending machines in two sports bars, one in Boston and one in L.A., that will offer up prizes before World Series games until the final out." They feature a "variety of things like rally towels, foam fingers, T-shirts and even limited-edition prizes like autographs and gear from Adidas athletes." The prizes "can change based on the circumstances of the game, inning-to-inning." For example, if Red Sox DH J.D. Martinez "hits a homer, it unlocks a chance to get J.D. Martinez gear and autographs" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 10/24).

TACO-FLAVORED KISSES: In Boston, Peter Abraham notes Red Sox RF Mookie Betts' steal of second in the first inning of Game 1 triggered a promotion in which anyone who "visits Taco Bell on Nov. 1 from 2-6 p.m. can receive a free Doritos Locos Taco." However, Red Sox 2B Brock Holt will not be among those taking advantage of the promo. Holt said, "I haven't eaten Taco Bell in probably 10 years. I'll probably stay away from the free taco." He added, "I would have to take my son (to Chipotle). He loves Chipotle. ... I'm going to pretty much stay away from Taco Bell. I could end up on a toilet all night." Holt on Wednesday "did not back away" from his original statement. However, he said, "I apologize to Taco Bell. I'm sure a lot of people will get their free tacos" (BOSTON GLOBE, 10/25).

DEFENDING THE HOME MARKET: In L.A., Alejandra Reyes-Velarde noted 10 local Boston Market locations have "hung banners with the words 'Los Angeles' covering 'Boston'" on the stores' signage. Charles Thomas, the manager at a one location in Burbank, is allowing employees on game days to "wear blue-and-white shirts and baseball caps." Thomas said that the banners "will come down after the World Series" (LATIMES.com, 10/25).
