The T'Wolves will reportedly "honor the late, great Prince with some incredible 'Purple Rain' alternate uniforms this season," according to Pete Blackburn of CBSSPORTS.com. The team will "pay tribute" to the late musician, who was a Minneapolis-native, with its City Edition uniforms. The jersey colors and fonts are "clearly a tribute to Prince and his famous 'Purple Rain' album art." The City Edition uniforms "typically pay tribute to the state or region represented by the team." The jerseys allow teams to get "very creative and think out-of-the-box when it comes to their alternate uniforms." The Prince edition will "probably be one of the most popular alternate jerseys league-wide as well." It is "expected to be officially unveiled (along with the rest of the NBA's City unis) in mid-November" (CBSSPORTS.com, 10/23). YAHOO SPORTS' Jay Busbee noted the City Edition uniforms "pay tribute to each NBA city with a unique, distinctive look." Busbee: "Sure, you can be a cynic and say that they’re just a way to deke fans into buying more merch, but when the uniforms are this sweet, fans will line up" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 10/23).

BIG POPPA: THE SOURCE's Shawn Grant notes the Nets City Edition uniforms will honor The Notorious B.I.G., a Brooklyn native, and will be "edged in a print similar to the Coogi sweaters" that were a trademark of his '90s style. The trim of the jerseys "carries a multi-color print, reminiscent of the iconic sweaters, while the rest of the jersey will be black and have white lettering and numbers" (THESOURCE.com, 10/25).

READY FOR SHOWTIME? USA TODAY’s Andy Nesbitt notes the Lakers wore "new uniforms" in last night's victory against the Suns. The team is calling them the "Statement" uniforms. Nesbitt: "While they do look pretty sweet, some had a small issue with one part of them -- the black stripe down the side" (USA TODAY, 10/25).
