Broncos President of Football Operations & GM JOHN ELWAY has a "game plan for politics," as he has made contributions to groups backing Colorado's Republican gubernatorial candidate, WALKER STAPLETON. Elway gave $10,000 to Better Colorado Now, an "independent expenditure committee supporting Stapleton," in August '17. Elway and his wife, PAIGE, in February each made a $1,150 donation -- the "maximum individual contributions allowed -- directly to Stapleton’s campaign," and this August "each gave the Stapleton Victory Fund $14,825." Elway also gave $2,700 to the re-election campaign of U.S. Rep. MIKE COFFMAN (R-Colo.) in "two donations this spring." In addition, Elway and his wife "each contributed $10,000 to the Colorado Republican Committee on Aug. 28" (Colorado Springs GAZETTE, 10/23).

CROSS COUNTRY TOUR: The WALL STREET JOURNAL's Dan Weil profiled HOK Sports architect ANDREW ELMER in a piece detailing four fans' "quests to visit as many football or baseball venues as they can." It is a "lifelong dream for many sports fans" to go to a game in every MLB ballpark or NFL stadium across the country. Weil looked at how a "few superfans approached their stadium tours." Elmer, 33, who lives in K.C., began traveling to Royals road games five years ago and "now brings along his 5-year-old son, JAXSON." He has been to six MLB ballparks so far: Kauffman Stadium, Progressive Field, Target Field, PNC Park, Comerica Park and Coors Field. Elmer said, “I’m a lifelong fan of sports events, and as a sports architect, I’m interested in seeing new facilities." He added, “It’s my way of introducing my son to what his dad’s life is like on the road. I introduce him to my clients, and he sees places he’s never been” (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 10/22).

NAMES: In the first six years of former golfer JOHN SCHROEDER’s charity tournament in San Diego, PHIL MICKELSON “contributed with his wallet,” but this year, Mickelson will be the “featured attraction.” Mickelson will “perform a clinic” at the Freedom to Live event on Oct. 29 at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club. Freedom to Live was “founded to work with people who have suffered catastrophic injuries” (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 10/23)....The IOC and Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee have commissioned director NAOMI KAWASE to "make a documentary film" about the '20 Tokyo Games (AP, 10/23)....76ers C JOEL EMBIID appears on GQ's first digital cover (THE DAILY).
