MLB Giants Co-Owner Tries To Distance Himself From Super PAC

MLB Giants co-Owner CHARLES JOHNSON is trying to "distance himself from the super PAC he contributed to and the racially charged radio advertisement it is running as part of an Arkansas congressional race," according to Jess Yomtov of USA TODAY. Johnson on July 23 "donated $1,000 to the PAC," called Black Americans for the President’s Agenda (USA TODAY, 10/20). In S.F., Sarah Ravani noted the radio ad "features two women saying Democrats could bring back lynchings if black voters don’t support the GOP." In a statement, Johnson said that he "didn’t know his donation would be used for the ad." He added, "I had absolutely no knowledge that this donation would be used in this manner and I, like the Giants organization, strongly condemn any form of racism and in no way condone the advertisement that was created by this entity." The Giants released their own statement calling the ad "disturbing and divisive political activity." Johnson is believed to "own the largest stake in the Giants" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 10/20).
